Take-Home Pay Calculator
Estimate your take-home (net) pay from your gross salary. This calculator uses YOUR OWN effective tax rate rather than trying to look up tax brackets automatically - tax rules vary hugely by country, region and personal circumstances, so a single accurate number for everyone isn't realistic. Find your real effective rate from a recent payslip or your local tax authority's own calculator for the most accurate result.
The overall % of gross pay that goes to income tax - check a recent payslip or your country's tax calculator for your real figure.
How to calculate take-home pay
Take-home pay = gross pay, minus tax at your entered rate, minus any other deductions you specify (retirement contributions, insurance, etc).
Take-home = Gross - (Gross x tax rate) - Other deductionsExample. A gross pay of 100,000 at a 20% effective tax rate with no other deductions leaves 80,000 take-home.
Why not automatic tax brackets?
Income tax systems differ enormously between countries (and often between regions within a country), use multiple brackets, and change every tax year. Rather than bake in one country's rules and mislead everyone else, this calculator asks for your own effective rate - the actual overall percentage you pay, which you can find on a payslip or by dividing last year's total tax by your total gross income.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my effective tax rate?
Look at a recent payslip: divide the tax withheld by your gross pay for that period and multiply by 100. Or use your country's official tax calculator with your full income to get an accurate annual effective rate.
Is my effective rate the same as my tax bracket?
No. Your tax bracket (marginal rate) only applies to income above a certain threshold - your effective rate (what this calculator uses) is the blended average across all your income, which is always lower than your top marginal bracket.
