Fraction Simplifier

Simplify any fraction to its lowest terms by dividing both numerator and denominator by their Greatest Common Divisor (GCD). The result is also shown as a decimal and a percentage.

How it works

The GCD (Greatest Common Divisor) is the largest number that divides both the numerator and denominator exactly. Dividing both by the GCD gives the simplest equivalent fraction.

Formula
GCD(a, b) = Euclidean algorithm | Simplified = (a/GCD) / (b/GCD)

Example. 12/8: GCD(12,8) = 4, so 12/8 = 3/2 = 1.5 = 150%.

Frequently asked questions

What does 'simplest form' mean?

A fraction is in simplest form (lowest terms) when the numerator and denominator share no common factor other than 1. For example, 3/2 is in simplest form but 6/4 is not (both divisible by 2).
