Final Grade Calculator
Find out exactly what score you need on an upcoming final exam or assignment to hit your target overall grade, based on your current grade and how much the final is worth.
What % of your final grade is already determined by completed work.
Usually 100% minus the weight above.
How it works
Your current grade already contributes its weighted share of points toward the final total. Whatever's left to reach your target must come entirely from the final, so the required score is the remaining points needed divided by the final's weight.
Required final score = (Target - Current grade x current weight/100) / (final weight/100)Example. With an 85% current grade worth 70% of the total, and a final worth 30%, reaching a 90% overall target needs a 101.7% on the final - meaning a 90% target isn't achievable here without extra credit.
Frequently asked questions
What if the required score is over 100%?
It means your target grade isn't achievable with a normal final exam score - you'd need extra credit, a curve, or to revise your target downward. This is common information to know before the exam, not after.
What if the required score is negative or very low?
It means you've already secured your target grade based on the work completed so far, regardless of how you do on the final (assuming you at least attempt it if attendance/completion matters).
